cardiac development, splicing, genetics, laterality, congenital heart defects
My laboratory uses genetic approaches in mouse and zebrafish to identify the causes of congenital heart defects. From this work we have revealed that variants in the spliceosome protein PRPF8 contribute to cardiac laterality defects, due to alterations in the ratio of transcript isoforms of Arl13b.
We are currently investigating the association between chaperone proteins, ciliopathies and congenital heart defects in collaboration with Dr Mohinder Pal of the University of Kent.
