Research Interests

cilia, cyclic nucleotides, cAMP, optogenetics

My research focuses on understanding how primary cilia function as cellular signaling hubs. We are particularly interested in ciliary second messenger signaling, especially cyclic AMP (cAMP), and how these signaling pathways can influence cellular decisions at the tissue and organismal level. To address these questions, we combine advanced imaging approaches with optogenetics and transfer our knowledge in vivo in mouse models as well in ciliopathy patients. We have been studying the role of cilia in metabolic diseases, including obesity-associated inflammation and polycystic kidney disease.
