Dr Adriana Buskin is interested in understanding how prostate cancer develops, adapts, and becomes resistant to treatment. Her research focuses on the cellular mechanisms that drive disease progression and how these can be modelled using human stem cell-derived systems.
A major focus of her work is the development of human prostate organoids from induced pluripotent stem cells. These miniature tissue models allow her to investigate how genetic alterations, cellular interactions, and signalling pathways influence prostate development and cancer progression in a controlled laboratory setting.
She is particularly interested in epithelial plasticity, therapy resistance, and the role of the primary cilium as a regulator of cellular signalling. By combining stem cell biology, genome engineering, advanced imaging, and transcriptomics, she aims to understand how cancer cells change their identity in response to treatment and how these changes may be prevented or reversed.
Dr Buskin is also passionate about developing more predictive and human-relevant research models that can reduce reliance on animal experimentation while improving the translation of laboratory findings into clinical benefit.
Her long-term goal is to use advanced organoid models to identify new therapeutic strategies and biomarkers that can improve outcomes for patients with advanced prostate cancer.
